NGOs and community clubs:

NGOs work independently using their own human and financial resources. They provide the needs for people hand in hand with the government. The Department of Societies and Community Clubs at the Ministry of Social Development is in charge supervises these associations and follows up with their activities as well as their compliance with the rules and regulations stipulated on this regard.

This department works with four other departments:

  • Department of Omani Women's Associations.
  • Department of Charitable Organizations and Funds.
  • Department of Professional Organizations.
  • Department of Community Clubs.

The department has issued statistics for the number of associations and departments working under its system until the end of 2011, which has reached 124 associations and clubs, to follow up with the activities of these associations and provide them with the best services and facilities.

Voluntary work:

Omani youth are active in voluntary work as they are aware of its importance to help solve social issues in the community. This promotes the partnership between the government and the civil community. Being closer to people, NGOs play a pivotal role in solving issues and encouraging individuals to take part in voluntary work.
